Gardening in Autumn!

autumn_leaves

Want to get out in the garden during Autumn? Here’s a few tips…

• Aerate your lawns

• Fertilise and revitalize your lawns before the onset of winter

• Time to plant! The sun isn’t so fierce, the soil is still warm and plants have a chance to settle in before winter

• Once the weather has cooled right off, take all your indoor plants outdoors for a breath of fresh air!

• Keep up mowing of the lawns even though the growth will start slowing down as the weather cools

• Trim your hedges before winter sets in to keep them compact and and bushy from ground level

• Mulch mulch mulch to keep weeds at bay and moisture in the soil

Top 5 fave plant – The Frangipani!!!

untitled
Another of our Top 5 faves in our garden bed is the frangipani. They add a tropical feel, have a fabulous sweet scent and have the most amazingly pretty bloom!

The most common is the white and yellow, but the pink and yellow is perhaps the more striking of the two.

Frangipani is a another very hardy plant that can survive drought and heat… Ideal for Perth gardens!

The 3 most important things to ensure a fabulous bloom?

1. Sunshine – they love hours and hours of direct sunlight
2. Water – a good amount of water, but don’t over do it
otherwise you’ll cause root rot
3. Fertilise – Fertilise with a high phosphorous fertiliser.
The nitrogen level should be relatively low and potassium
in the fertiliser helps to produce a strong plant
